Goldfinger - Never Look Back: Personal REVIEW
It's been two months since Goldfinger released their latest album. I was not immersed in this album at first listen. I was hooked by thrash metal music at that time. Two months later, I'm started to bored at that kind of music and started to play some random music that popped out of my Spotify home. My first impression of this album was boring, tedious, and sounds like a bunch of mediocre pop punk songs.
The first single from this album is "Wallflower", a ska punk theme. I watched the clip for this song on YouTube right some hours after the song was released. At first, I didn't like the melody from the beginning of the song until the chorus part. The only acceptable part of this song was its chorus. After I listened to this single, I was not expecting an exceptional album by Goldfinger, as they did on "The Knife".
After listening to some loops, I found out that this is a remarkable album! First of all, this album is filled with good vibes songs that can help you to go through this depressing pandemic situation. My favorites are Standing on the Beach (fav), The City, and Careful What You Wish For. This album is filled with tons of ska punk songs. I prefer Goldfinger to other ska punk bands because Goldfinger emphasizes more on the punk rock side than that the on ska side. Comments on some songs:
Standing on the Beach
This is the best song on this album.
The City
"Let's just drive to the city... never look back." As a non-native English speaker, my personal interpretation of this song is to see a bright future and never look back. This song would motivates you to go through this situation.
Nothing to Me
I REALLY can relate to this song. Recently, my heart was broken by you, and this song always reminding me to forget you.
California on my Mind
This song has the same vibe with "Tijuana Sunrise" on their "The Knife" album. It has the vibe of summer, beach, and sunshine.
Dumb
"my heart go boom boom boom," I love it since it sounds so cute.
To sum up, this album can help you to go through this depressing pandemic situation. I guess this album was released on the perfect time.
