Manhattan Project, lagu Rush

Kali ini saya akan membahas sebuah lagu dari grup musik Rush, yaitu Manhattan Project. Manhattan Project adalah lagu ketiga dari album studio kesebelas Rush, yaitu Power Windows dirilis tahun 1985. Lirik lagu ini ditulis oleh Neil Peart dan musik ditulis oleh Alex Lifeson dan Geddy Lee. Lagu Manhattan Project bercerita tentang Proyek Manhattan. Sebelum menulis lirik lagu ini, Neil Peart sudah membaca sekitar 10 buku tentang proyek Manhattan, jadi ia sudah sangat mengerti tentang Proyek Manhattan ini. Proyek Manhattan adalah usaha untuk mengembangkan bom atom pada saat masa Perang Dunia II.
Lagu ini terdiri dari empat bait: 
1. Bait pertama menceritakan tentang 'a time', yaitu pada masa Perang Dunia II

"Imagine a time when it all began

In the dying days of a war

A weapon that would settle the score

Whoever found it first would be sure to do their worst

They always had before.."

2. Bait kedua menceritakan tentang 'a scientist' atau seorang ilmuwan (seperti Julius Robert Oppenheimer, seorang fisikawan yang mengatur semua riset untuk membuat bom atom)

"Imagine a man where it all began 

A scientist pacing the floor 

In each nation, always eager to explore

To build the best big stick

To turn the winning trick

But this was something more.."

3. Bait ketiga menceritakan tentang 'a place' atau sebuah tempat, seperti Los Alamos di New Mexico (tempat scientific rahasia untuk memngembangkan senjata nuklir/bom atom)

"Imagine a place where it all began

Gathered from across the land

To work in the secrecy of the desert sand

All of the brightest boys 

To play with the biggest toys

More than they bargained for.."

4. Bait keempat menceritakan tentang 'a man' atau seseorang (yaitu Paul Tibbets, pilot pesawat Enola Gay yang meledakan bom atom di Hiroshima, Jepang pada tanggal 6 Agustus 1945)

"Imagine a man when it all began

The pilot of Enola Gay

Flying out of the shockwave on that August Day

All the powers that be, and the course of history

Would be change forevermore."

Sedangkan reffrain lagu ini menceritakan tentang ledakannya.

"The big bang took and shook the world

Shot down the rising sun 

The end was begun and it hit everyone

When the chain reaction was done

The big shots tried to hold it back

Fools tried to wish it away

The hopeful depend on a world without end

Whatever the hopeless may say"

Lagu ini dibawakan live oleh Rush di Power Windows Tour (1986), Hold Your Fire tour (1988), Presto tour (1990), dan di Clockwork Angels tour (2012-2013)
